A real workshop under ULTRABEAM™ lights
John's 23-Grid C runs the length of the workshop, over the cabinets and the bike.
Before you order
A kit in the middle of the room sits behind you at a wall bench. You can shade your own work. Run a long kit down the bench side, or add a small kit over the bench.
Yes. At 6500K and CRI 85, wire colours, paint and wood grain read as they are.
Not to plug it in. One 1.5 m cord runs each kit from a standard power point. A lit border takes a second socket. To put it on a wall switch, use a licensed electrician.
Timber, steel, concrete or plasterboard. It mounts flush, or drops on the included suspension cables under a high or raked roof.
It uses about 60% less power than the fluoros it replaces. The LEDs are rated to 50,000 hours.
Yes. Every tube, connector and cord is stocked on its own. Extend it over a new bench, add a border or change the shape.
An afternoon, with a helper for the lift. It goes together on the floor and is tested before it goes up.
Yes. ULTRABEAM is RCM marked and certified to Australian electrical safety standards, on an earthed 3-pin plug.
Sizing and install guide
Size and hang your workshop lights
What to measure, how bright to go and where the kit goes. Tap a question to open it.
The Australian standard for workplace lighting asks 240 lux for ordinary bench work. Inspecting car work takes 400. Fine painting and finishing take 600. A 6 x 6 m garage under a 25-Grid B gets about 1,840 lumens a square metre.
Over the place you work most: the car, the lift or the middle of the floor. A wall bench gets its own kit, or the long side of one. Keep it clear of door tracks and rails.
Measure the clear ceiling between the walls, the beams and any rail. Sizes read length by width: a 6.5 x 2.4 m kit is 6.5 m long. Check a power point sits within reach of the 1.5 m cord.
Light falls off with distance. From a 3.0 m ceiling, about a third less reaches the floor than from 2.4 m. Hang the kit lower on its cables, or go a size up.
A batten throws one hard shadow under your hands or a bonnet. A hexagon kit spreads its tubes over the ceiling, so the job is lit from several sides.
- Lay the parts out on a clear patch of floor.
- Push each tube into its connector until it clicks.
- Plug it in and check that every tube lights.
- With a helper, lift it and screw through the connectors into the ceiling.
- Clip the cord along the ceiling to the power point.
You need a drill, a ladder and a tape measure.
Pick one of the 16 longer kits, up to 9.8 m long. Or run two kits side by side, each on its own power point.
Doing the workshop floor as well?
Our garage floor tiles click together by hand, straight over the old concrete. Most garages take a weekend.
