How Modular LED Lighting Works

ULTRABEAM is a modular system of LED tubes and angle connectors that click together into any grid pattern. One power cable, one plug — no electrician needed.

  • LED tubes snap into angle connectors — build any shape from simple rows to hexagonal grids
  • One power adaptor per grid — plugs into a standard Australian power outlet
  • Fully expandable — add more tubes and connectors to your existing setup anytime
  • Mount to your ceiling with basic screws — no hardwiring or electrical work required

Pro tip

Think of it like building blocks for your ceiling. Snap tubes into connectors, mount to the ceiling, plug in — done.

Key Terms Explained

A quick glossary of the terms you’ll see across our lighting guides and product pages.

  • Lumens — a measure of total light output. More lumens = brighter light.
  • Lux — lumens per square metre. Lux tells you how bright a surface actually is, accounting for room size.
  • Kelvin (K) — the colour temperature of light. Lower numbers (2700K) are warm/yellow, higher numbers (6500K) are cool/daylight.
  • Colour temperature — describes how warm or cool light appears. ULTRABEAM is fixed at 6500K daylight white for true colour accuracy.

LED vs Other Garage Lighting

How ULTRABEAM compares to common garage lighting options.

  • Fluorescent tubes — flickering, slow to start, contain mercury, and produce uneven light with a greenish tint
  • Halogen floodlights — extremely hot, high energy use, and create harsh shadows across your workspace
  • Fixed LED panels — bright but limited coverage. Once mounted, you can’t reconfigure or expand them.
  • Bare bulbs — cheap but produce poor, uneven light with dark spots across the room

Pro tip

ULTRABEAM combines the brightness of commercial LEDs with the flexibility of a modular system you can reconfigure anytime.

Choosing the Right Setup

The right amount of lighting depends on your space and what you use it for.

  • Single garage (~18m²) — a small grid kit provides bright, even coverage for parking and basic tasks
  • Double garage (~36m²) — a medium grid kit or two small kits cover the full space for workshop use
  • Large or triple garage (~54m²+) — multiple grid kits ensure no dark spots across the entire area

Pro tip

See our lighting coverage guide for detailed recommendations based on your exact room size and use case.

Common Questions

No. ULTRABEAM plugs into a standard power outlet — no hardwiring or electrical work needed.

We recommend sticking to one system per installation for the cleanest look and simplest setup. All ULTRABEAM connectors and tubes are cross-compatible.

Simply unclip the tube from its connectors and replace it. Each tube is individually removable without affecting the rest of the grid.
