LED Lighting Installation Guide
ULTRABEAM uses LED tubes and angle connectors that click together into any grid pattern. Assemble on the floor, test, mount to your ceiling, and plug into a standard power outlet.
Before You Start
A few tools and a clear workspace are all you need
What you'll need
Preparation checklist
- Unbox and verify all components are present — tubes, connectors, power adaptor, and cable
- Confirm you have a standard power outlet within reach of the installation
- Clear a floor area large enough to assemble and test your full layout
- Clear the ceiling area of any obstructions
- Read the included safety warnings before starting
01
Step 01Plan Your Layout
10-15 min
Sketch your design and figure out which connectors go where. Any pattern works — the system is completely modular.
- Sketch your grid pattern on paper — hexagonal grids, straight rows, or custom shapes all work
- Decide where the power adaptor will connect (this is where the cable runs to your outlet)
- Count your tubes and connectors — 2-way connectors for straight runs, 3-way connectors for branches
- Mark rough positions on the ceiling with a pencil for reference
Pro tip
Start from the centre and work outward for a balanced look. Hexagonal honeycomb patterns are the most popular choice.
02
Step 02Assemble Tubes and Connectors
15-30 min
On a clear floor, click the LED tubes into the angle connectors to build your full grid layout.
- Lay out the connectors on the floor in your planned pattern
- Slide each LED tube into a connector port until you hear and feel a click
- Do not force the tubes — if it doesn’t click easily, pull out and try again
- Continue connecting tubes and connectors until the full grid is assembled
Pro tip
2-way connectors join two tubes in a straight line. 3-way connectors branch into three directions for grid patterns. Never force a connection — if it resists, realign and try again.
03
Step 03Test Before Mounting
5 min
Always test the full layout on the floor before mounting. It’s much easier to fix connections at ground level.
- Connect the power adaptor cable to the assembled grid
- Plug the power adaptor into a standard outlet
- Switch on and check that every tube lights up
- If any tube is dark, unclick and reseat it until the connection is solid
Pro tip
This step is critical. Once mounted on the ceiling, troubleshooting a dark tube means working on a ladder. Test everything now.
04
Step 04Mount to Ceiling
30-60 min
Three mounting options depending on your ceiling type. Flat mount with screws is the most common for garages.
- Flat mount (most common): screw directly through the connector mounting holes into the ceiling
- Suspended mount: attach hanging wire kits to connectors and suspend from ceiling anchors
- Grid ceiling mount: use cable ties to attach connectors to the existing grid framework
- For all methods, have a helper hold the grid steady while you secure the first few points
Pro tip
For plasterboard ceilings, use wall plugs or toggle bolts for a secure hold. The screws go through the holes in each connector — not through the tubes.
05
Step 05Connect Power and Enjoy
5 min
Plug into any standard outlet. One power adaptor per grid. For permanent wiring to a switch, we recommend a licensed electrician.
- Route the power adaptor cable neatly along the ceiling to the nearest outlet
- Plug the adaptor into a standard Australian power outlet
- Switch on — your full grid lights up instantly
Pro tip
Use cable clips along the ceiling to keep the power cable tidy and out of sight.
Frequently Asked Questions
ULTRABEAM plugs into a standard power outlet — no hardwiring needed. Most people comfortable with a drill and ladder install it themselves.
Yes. The system is fully modular — add more tubes and connectors to your existing grid at any time, or add a second grid for even more coverage.
Flat mount (screws through connectors into ceiling — best for garages), suspended mount (hanging wires for higher ceilings), and grid ceiling mount (cable ties to existing grid framework for commercial-style ceilings).
