Keep your floor looking new

How to Clean Interlocking Garage Tiles

Garage tiles are low-maintenance by design, a quick sweep and occasional mop is all it takes to keep them looking new.

15-30 min quick clean
Basic tools broom & mop
Low maintenance no sealing needed

The short version

  • Sweep weekly, grit wears the surface over time.
  • Mop with warm water and a little dish soap. No hosing needed.
  • Spot-clean oil with degreaser, stains never soak in.

Before You Start

Gather your cleaning supplies

What you'll need

Broom or vacuum
For regular sweeping, removes dust, dirt and loose debris
Mop and bucket
Standard flat mop or string mop works fine
Mild detergent
Dish soap or general-purpose cleaner diluted in warm water
Leaf blower
Fastest way to clear dust and grit, especially from vented tiles
Degreaser or isopropyl alcohol
For stubborn oil, grease or tyre marks
Soft-bristle brush
For scrubbing textured tile surfaces

Preparation

  • Move vehicles and large items off the floor
  • Sweep or vacuum the entire floor first
  • Identify any stains that need spot treatment

Step 01: Sweep or Vacuum Regularly

5-10 min

The single best thing you can do for your tiles is sweep them regularly. Grit and sand act like sandpaper under foot traffic and tyres.

  • Use a broom, leaf blower or shop vacuum to clear dust, dirt and loose debris
  • Pay attention to tile joints where grit tends to accumulate
  • A leaf blower is the quickest way to clear a whole floor, and it lifts grit straight out of vented tiles

Pro tip

A quick sweep once a week prevents build-up. It takes 5 minutes and makes a big difference over time.

Step 02: Mop with Warm Water

10-20 min

For a deeper clean, a warm water mop lifts the grime that sweeping misses. A little dish soap is all you need, no special products.

  • Fill a bucket with warm water and a small amount of mild detergent (dish soap works perfectly)
  • Mop the floor in sections, wringing out the mop regularly
  • Avoid bleach, ammonia or abrasive cleaners, they can dull the tile surface
  • Go over it with a clean damp mop if you used detergent, then let it air-dry

Pro tip

Wring the mop out well. The tiles do not need soaking, a damp mop does the job and dries in minutes.

Step 03: Spot-Clean Oil and Grease Stains

5-10 min

Oil drips, brake fluid and grease are common in garages. Our tiles are chemical-resistant, so these stains won’t cause permanent damage, they just need a targeted clean.

  • Apply degreaser or isopropyl alcohol directly to the stain
  • Let it sit for 2-3 minutes, then scrub with a soft-bristle brush
  • Wipe clean with a damp cloth and rinse the area
  • For tyre marks, a standard tyre mark remover or citrus-based degreaser works well

Pro tip

Clean spills as soon as you notice them. Fresh oil wipes off easily; dried oil takes more effort.

Cleaning Questions

We do not recommend it. You do not need water blasting to get these tiles clean, and forcing water under the floor is not doing you any favours. A vacuum or leaf blower for the loose stuff, then a warm mop, handles everything.

Tyre marks are caused by hot rubber transferring to the tile surface. Apply a citrus-based degreaser or isopropyl alcohol, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub with a soft brush. Most tyre marks come off easily.

Sweep weekly and mop monthly for a garage with regular vehicle use. Adjust based on your traffic, a showroom garage may need less frequent cleaning, while a busy workshop may need more.

No. Our tiles are chemical-resistant, oil, fuel, brake fluid and solvents won’t cause permanent damage. Just clean the stain with degreaser and a brush.
